Event Introduction

Combining the organ with other instruments has been a source of great delight for French composer Thierry Escaich. His third organ concerto bears the name Quatre Visages du temps and weaves elements of different musical eras into its material.

American composer Catherine Lamb is in turn fascinated by “liminal perceptual states, shifts in density, the filtered atmosphere, and intense, focused experiences”. These are also features of skin/shimmer premiered at the London Proms in summer 2023. The work is part of a broader entity entitled portions transparents/opaque.

The Musica nova concert by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra will also include the premiere performances of works by Lara Poe, the orchestra’s theme composer for the season, and Olli Koskelin.

NB: Olli Koskelin and Lara Poe will be talking about their works before the concert, at 18:00, in the lower foyer of the Helsinki Music Centre.
