This iconic contemporary music orchestra returns to Helsinki after a decade away!
Founded by Pierre Boulez in 1976, the Ensemble intercontemporain has earned its place as the world’s most esteemed chamber orchestra with a passion for contemporary music. Based in Paris, the orchestra is comprised of 31 top musicians specialising in 20th and 21st-century music. The group has become known for its uncompromising contemporary musical expertise as well as its unique projects that combine different elements of music, performance art and visual art.
At Musica Nova Helsinki 2019, Ensemble intercontemporian presents a wide selection of the latest and most interesting concert music under the direction of the German contemporary music star Enno Poppe (b. 1969). The programme includes Pierre-Yves Macé’s (b. 1980) Rumorarium, premiered in autumn 2018, and Bruno Mantovani’s (b. 1974) Cadenza no.1for percussion instruments and orchestra, which also premiered in 2018. The percussion soloist for the performance is the Frenchman Gilles Durot (b. 1983). Additionally, the audience will be treated to Poppe’s 2012 piece Koffer.
