Zebra Trio

The Zebra Trio (Ernst Kovacic violin, Steven Dann viola and Anssi Karttunen cello) represents a wealth of experience, commitment and virtuosity, which brings something exceptional to this highly individual form of chamber music. The three musicians have each enjoyed privileged relations with major composers of our time and wish to share their passion with audiences by combining new works, unknown works and transcriptions with the pillars of the repertoire. Premiered works include important new string trios by Kaija Saariaho, Miroslav Srnka and Rolf Wallin, among others.

Musica nova Helsinki’s Artistic Director Anssi Karttunen brings his internationally-acclaimed Zebra Trio to Finland. The other members of the Zebra Trio are Austrian Ernst Kovacic (violin) and Canadian Steven Dann (viola). The concert is part of the Klang series focusing on music composed in the 21st century.

The concert will introduce the third composer-in-residence Fred Lerdahl with a world premiere of his Give and Take for violin and cello. Magnus Lindberg’s Acequia Madre for viola and piano is played by Steven Dann and the composer himself. The Zebra Trio will also perform Miroslav Srnka’s and Rolf Wallin’s string trios. All works in the concert are composed for these performers.
