Event Introduction

For decades now, Helmut Lachenmann has been one of the most significant influencers and role models of contemporary music in the world. His aesthetic legacy is also evident in Finland.

Lachenmann approaches music from an instrument-oriented perspective through the material. He has used the term musique concrète instrumentale for his own music, by which he means the concrete sound, noise made by instruments.

What thoughts does the 87-year-old composer have today?

Musica nova’s guest composer Helmut Lachenmann is interviewed by composer Jarkko Hartikainen.

The discussion is in English.
